This study presents a measurement invariance analyses applying CFA to examine if TIMSS 2019 'Student Attitude toward Science' scale measured the same latent variables across two groups – U.S. and East Asia to understand grade 8 students' self-concept of and motivations to learn science, based on 27,885 TIMSS data. Although the Student Attitude toward Science scale in this study revealed the same factor structure for the samples from the U.S. and East Asia, our findings showed that the scale's items had different meanings for these two student groups.
