Data-Based Pre-K Design – An Exploratory Analysis

Fri, April 12, 3:05 to 4:35pm, Pennsylvania Convention Center, Floor: Level 200, Room 204ABC

Abstract

We can potentially leverage successful practices and programs from kindergarten and out-of-school practices, to inform the design of PreK programs. One way to design a PreK CL program could be to take inspiration from how we teach language literacy skills in early childhood. Language literacy programs might provide important insights for development of PreK CL programs. This work-in-process study aims to conduct an exploratory investigation into the in-school and out-of-school factors influencing kindergarten literacy outcomes. It seeks to identify these factors and examine how understanding their impact can inform the design of effective PreK computational literacy programs. Preliminary results show statistically significant association between literacy scores and literacy practices.
