Exploring the Self-Regulatory Challenge of Compulsive Social Media Use From a Metamotivational Perspective

Fri, April 12, 4:55 to 6:25pm, Pennsylvania Convention Center, Floor: Level 200, Room 204ABC

Abstract

We have conducted two mixed-methods studies that each explore the social media experiences of two groups of young adults: those who are able to identify a recent time when they struggled to disengage from social media and those who are not. We are currently in the process of identifying feelings, thoughts, and strategies that account for differences in the way that individuals from these two groups regulate their use of social media. Findings from these studies will hopefully contribute to the growing literature examining young people's compulsive social media use.
