Foreign Language Listening Anxiety in the Spanish Classroom: A Complex Dynamic Systems Theory Approach

Abstract

The present study took place in an intermediate Spanish class during the 2023 spring semester. It serves to challenge conventional methods of examining listening anxiety, which consist principally of quantitative studies driven by surveys. For the present dissertation research, participants (n=5) explained their listening anxiety using static and dynamic measures. The static To further contextualize their anxiety, they completed weekly interviews to explain why they rated their anxiety in a particular way. Finally, to best understand the learning environment, there were weekly class observations.
