"Abstract
This research explores the efficacy of diverse Swahili language learning methodologies, including traditional classroom teaching, Duolingo, and advanced AI technologies like ChatGPT. Utilizing self-determination theory, it aims to evaluate the effectiveness, benefits, and limitations of these approaches, offering insights for language learners and educators. The study focuses on understanding motivation, autonomy, and learning outcomes in the context of Swahili acquisition. It employs quantitative methods to compare modalities in effectiveness, learner satisfaction, and knowledge retention, supplemented by qualitative insights from learner and instructor experiences. The research seeks to fill gaps in understanding the impact of AI on language education, providing valuable data for future educational strategies in language learning.
