Story circles for Asian American Feminists in the Ongoing-COVID-19 Era

Sat, April 13, 11:25am to 12:55pm, Pennsylvania Convention Center, Floor: Level 200, Room 204ABC

Abstract

This project brought together a group of eight Asian American feminists in an eight-week virtual story-circle experience to collectively reflect and share autobiographical narratives with one another around core themes of Asian American feminist identity and life experiences. Through a critical narrative analysis, this project documents how a group of Asian American feminists are narrating their gendered and raced identities in this time after the sharp rise in anti-Asian violence during the COVID-19 pandemic (Stop AAPI Hate, 2022) and subsequent rise of Asian American community organizing, racial consciousness raising, and politicization. Furthermore, this project aims to document the unique affordances of affinity group story-circle spaces as potential sites for community education.
