Critical Development of Teachers' Attitudes Toward Play-Based Pedagogy Scale

Abstract

The proposed Research-in-Progress submission is a construct validation study of an educational research tool, the Teachers' Attitudes towards Play-based Pedagogy Scale (TAPPS). Data collection for this scale is in progress, and as of November 4th, 2023, the TAPPS has been taken by over 50 early childhood workers attending a City University of New York (CUNY) campus. The scale currently internal reliability for its intended purposes and displays convergent validity with two theoretically related scales. Beyond being a scale of teachers' attitudes towards play-based pedagogy, through use of this tool, I hope to critically examine the understandings of researchers and, within a Marxian framework, elevate the attitudes of early childhood workers as experts in the field.
