The model minority narrative claims that the Asian American communities have universally achieved the American dream through economic and educational success. And the high academic achievement of Asian American students has been attributed, at least partially, to the high level of family support/investment. However, we know little about the disparities in academic achievement and family investment across Asian American subgroups. Using ECLS-K: 2011 data and a nationally representative sample of Asian students, this study examines the academic achievement and family investment disparities across Asian American subgroups. This study also examines the impact of family investment on Asian children's academic achievement.
