Liminal experiences in doctoral education profoundly shape the way we think and research; however, unlike other, more familiar conceptualizations of student experiences, liminal experiences cannot be studied directly using traditional methodologies. In my project, I discuss specific challenges of studying liminality, make a case for fabulation as a viable methodological approach for a liminal experience study, and critically reflect on what I was able to learn from fabulating liminal monsters of doctoral education with the help of drawing and creative writing, I believe that my findings are of significance both to critical and arts based research educational scholarship.
