The importance of students' experiences outside of the classroom has been widely acknowledged by the literature and specifically by many higher education scholars (Chatterjee & Parra, 2022; Kuh, 1995). Although the literature surrounding student-services programs is extensive, less attention has been placed on students' interactions with student-services professionals (Haley, 2023). Many quantitative studies have identified the types of benefits and drawbacks students experience as a result of these interactions, yet there is little discussion behind why. This qualitative study seeks to address this identified gap in the literature by showcasing graduate student dialogues about their interactions with student-services personnel, the expectations they hold for student-services, and ideas to help change the day-to-day processes of staff and administrators.
