Identifying Factors That Shape Title IX Practices Designed to Allow Pregnant and Parenting Undergraduates to Maintain Academic Progress

Sun, April 14, 11:25am to 12:55pm, Pennsylvania Convention Center, Floor: Level 200, Room 204ABC

Abstract

Anecdotal evidence suggests that implementation of Title IX pregnant and parenting student protections fluctuates across higher education institutions in the U.S. Using survey data administered nationally to Title IX coordinators at public, four-year institutions (n = 780) combined with secondary data from the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) and document analysis data from college webpages, this study will analyze institutional practices employed to remove education barriers experienced by pregnant and parenting students. This study will provide a descriptive typology of practices and examine the variability of practices across institutions using latent class analysis (LCA) to determine if a typology of postsecondary schools exists based on the implementation of Title IX practices intended to support pregnant and parenting students.
