The purpose of this study was to examine how Indonesian female teacher educators made sense of their identities in the neoliberal meritocracy context. Two Indonesian female teacher educators were interviewed and their teaching practices were observed. Findings revealed that despite their crucial role as educators and researchers, the female teacher educators struggled enacting their identities as women and mothers, due to being overworked and feeling unsupported. The findings have important implications for destabilising the gender-biased discourse in higher education and conceptualising support for female teacher educators.
