Critical Participatory Inquiry in Transnational Research Contexts

Fri, April 12, 7:45 to 9:15am, Pennsylvania Convention Center, Floor: Level 100, Room 118B

Session Type: Structured Poster Session

Abstract

Critical Participatory Inquiry (CPI) represents a group of methodologies that seek to create authentic knowledge on issues of community concern through dialogue and reflection and work toward meaningful change. This structured poster session, based on a new handbook published by Routledge, illustrates how research guided by CPI’s emancipatory epistemology can support social change in transnational contexts. Following an introduction to CPI’s central tenets, cases from across the Global South and Global North and from diverse disciplines demonstrate how CPI can fulfill its democratizing and decolonizing potential. The session provides a valuable framework for transnational CPI, and the cases detail a wealth of examples for those who want to work toward greater equity and social justice in transnational research contexts.
