Session Type: Symposium
This session engages the ongoing work of a three-person research-artist-activist collective called White Study Hall. As white educators working in different institutions, we come together around a commitment to rethink how our bodies engage, disrupt, and perform with, against, and through whiteness (Ahmed, 2007; Leonardo & Zembylas, 2003). In this session, we trace the arc of our six year collaboration across various projects including multi-genre writing, group “assignments”, and community workshops, to explore how our work can better unfurl into the curricular space of teacher education. We wonder what creative, activist practices emerge in teacher education when we take seriously the nuances of embodied teaching, collaborative practices, and learning inside of and in opposition to the harms of racism.
