Session Type: Symposium
This session centers the lived experiences of five junior Scholars of Color invested in (re)imagining and (re)building educational spaces free of racial injustice (Dillard, 2012). Our objective is to highlight the challenges of drawing upon the lessons our homeplaces and communities have taught us while simultaneously navigating the treacherous terrain of higher education as educators, scholars, and individuals “grounded in the world we wish to make.” (Kelly, 2016) Through storytelling, we share how we embody resistance to whitewashed, ahistorical, and decontextualized educational contexts. Together, we unpack how our histories, testimonios, and truths connect us to the work that we do within and beyond academia.
