Session Type: Symposium
The objective of this symposium is to complicate and expand commons ways that educators and scholars partner with culturally and linguistically diverse families. Drawing upon a range of critical and culturally responsive frameworks, each paper rigorously conceptualizes and interrogates systemic educational inequities. Each paper identifies where systemic inequities exist at the school or district level, and explores how multilingual families, in partnership with educators, endeavor to disrupt normative ways that families are included in educational decisions. Multilingual families are presented as legitimate partners in their children’s schools, who navigate the educational landscape, and advocate for learning environments where their children feel represented and included.
