Session Type: Symposium
The urgency for innovative, racially just approaches to cultivate pre-service teachers of Color (ToC) is critical, as racism along the U.S. public education trajectory remains persistent. Constructing creative, action-oriented approaches to attracting, preparing, and sustaining ToC are essential to bridging ethnoracial cultural and linguistic gaps and ensuring teachers are well-positioned to model and affirm students’ brilliance. This symposium presents four papers that focus on cultivating culturally and linguistically affirming programs and spaces for pre-service teachers of Color. Led by scholars of Color and built on prior research, the studies explore pedagogies, networks, and ecosystems–offering insights into designing equitable and transformative teacher preparation programs to advance learning spaces for racial justice.
