Session Type: Structured Poster Session
Coaching has emerged as a prevalent and promising professional development lever in US schools. Coaches are deeply rooted in particular organizational and leadership contexts which influence how coaching is conceived of, organized, and enacted. In order for coaching to fulfill its promise, there is a need to better understand the varied contexts that promote and hinder coaches’ efforts to support teaching and learning. This structured poster session brings together 10 groups of scholars to explore the influence of organizational and leadership contexts on the work of coaching. The presenters will explore the following contexts: district and building-level leadership, school schedules, school resources, and coaching structures. Implications for researchers, policymakers, and practitioners will be discussed.
