Session Type: Symposium
Performance assessment (PA) of critical thinking (CT) involves a real-world task, comprising a scenario, a challenge, a document library (e.g., memoranda, reports, charts, blogs), and an open-ended response. Documents vary in relevance, trustworthiness, and bias susceptibility that the respondent must consider. PA of CT can provide valid and helpful information for teaching (formative) and accountability (summative) in higher education (e.g., Shavelson et al., 2018). Nevertheless, challenges remain, particularly in an international context. This symposium focuses on responses to the challenge of cross-national comparability (e.g., Berman et al., 2020; Braun et al., 2020; Ronderos et al. 2021; Ursin et al., 2022). This symposium elaborates on challenges and presents possible conceptual and/or methodological approaches to address them.
