Session Type: Symposium
The symposium focuses on education and, more specifically, on the functioning of the school system, paying particular attention to practices and behaviors that may support, even if unconsciously, inequalities and discrimination. Indeed, discussing inequality, education represents a crucial aspect for counteracting social disparity and a decisive factor in fostering social inclusion and mobility, particularly considering minority groups. There will be five contributions that, starting from empirical research, reflect upon the challenges schools face in multicultural contexts, with the aims of 1) discussing practices that can be applied in different contexts to support real inclusion processes and 2) reflecting on the role of the educational and social institutions in supporting, or conversely hindering, the educational paths of immigrant descendants.
