Session Type: Symposium
This session examines relational pedagogies in both K-12 and higher education settings. It offers complementary entry points for discussing and understanding the benefits to forming relationships in education, particularly in sites that have historically overlooked the value of nurturing caring relationships. Presenters highlight the relevance of cross-cultural relations as a means of addressing the harm produced by ignoring cultural differences among students. This symposium aims to create a space for theorizing and understanding the specificities and commonalities of relational pedagogies across different sites. As such, attendees will gain both an overview of new trends and knowledge in relation-centered pedagogies and holistic education while also learning about the ways institutions close off opportunities for human-to-human relationships.
