Session Type: Symposium
The symposium includes three educational leadership faculty at three different universities in the United States, with additional senior educational leadership scholars serving as chair and another as discussant. Each presenter will discuss innovative models that use Black educational history to prepare educational leaders for equity-centered leadership. As faculty in educational leadership preparation programs, we present these models as a way to move candidates - and ourselves - from knowledge and awareness of Black educational history to action and advocacy with this history in mind. The primary throughline of the session is how centering Black educational histories related to equity, improvement, and community can support aspiring school leaders in achieving equitable, socially-just schools.
Using Black Educational History to Make Equity-Based Decisions - Miyoshi Juergensen, University of Alabama - Birmingham
Improvement Science Through an Endarkened Lens - Brandi N. Hinnant-Crawford, Clemson University
Community-Engaged Leadership Preparation - Darrius A. Stanley, University of Minnesota
