Session Type: Symposium
The educational spaces in which we teach, conduct research and build community have been radically impacted over the last several years. From the devastating effects of the pandemic to the anti-CRT and book-banning hysteria sparked by state policymakers, the frameworks we employ are meant to empower the students we work with and disrupt the systems in which we operate. This symposium highlights the ways in which we cultivate transformative ruptures via partnership-building, program development, and community-based research in three educational spaces across San Antonio, Texas. We share our research on three separate but related projects with high school youth, undergraduate and graduate students, and detail the methods we employ in (re)imagining of educational empowerment, action and research.
