Session Type: Symposium
Racism continues to present as a serious problem plaguing the very fabric of society and individual human experiences. It can be manifested in various forms. This symposium contributes empirical evidence from four studies that expose three persistent forms of racism: (1) individual racism (e.g., implicit biases), (2) systemic racism (e.g., policies and practices that perpetuate racial inequalities by disproportionately favoring racial majority over minority groups), and (3) cultural racism (e.g., the belief and actions showing that the majority culture is superior to others, leading to insensitivity to and devaluation of other cultures). We heed the call to action by presenting findings of different manifestations of or solutions to racism in two developmental contexts (adolescence and emerging adulthood).
