Session Type: Symposium
In this symposium, authors of three papers present approaches to subverting their secondary English Language Arts (ELA) curricula. Authors include teacher educators as well as in-service, practicing secondary teachers. Presentations span 15-20 minutes and address positionalities that influence their teaching; the theoretical foundations of their work; the traditional ELA convention their study addresses; and their subversive approach to disrupting this ELA convention. Presentations conclude with implications for practice. Symposia organizers will offer remarks on the commonalities of the presentations, highlighting the successes and challenges of subversive ELA teaching. Audience comments and questions are encouraged.
