Session Type: Symposium
Teacher educators of mathematics, literature, science, and social studies are guided by a critical multicultural educator to actualize theoretical and intersectional applications of asset-based pedagogies in their respective fields. Each panelist will address how to maintain academic rigor, cultural competence, and critical consciousness while preparing pre- and in-service teachers to effectively teach their subject matter. Using Funds of Knowledge as the cultural bridge for learning and teaching, panelists will demonstrate how the intersectional identities, cultural practices, and communities of historically excluded groups can be recognized, explored, challenged, and strengthened. Panelists will model the vulnerability necessary to enact humanization of self and of the student.
