Session Type: Symposium
Education abroad programs for educators and teacher candidates are one way to cultivate sociocultural consciousness. Through immersion in a new international context, teachers and teacher candidates see and experience racial interactions in a new way. This session brings together scholarship examining the connections between race and education abroad. Too often, race is overlooked in research exploring education abroad and cross-cultural experiences. This symposium considers the overarching question: How are international programs for educators engaging the concept of race with their participants?
