Abstract

This session will offer attendees an opportunity to visit an adult education program in one historic neighborhood of Philadelphia, whose guiding principle is a holistic vision of adult learners. Developed through a participatory process, offerings at this program are responsive to interests of adult community members and include academics, financial literacy, personalized coaching, and cultural activities like art and cooking. The visit will include program observation and conversations with practitioners and participants. After the visit will be a short debrief session for discussion and reflection. This offsite visit offers adult education researchers at AERA an opportunity to visit a program which offers a successful model for community-based partnerships and to understand the history of one local community.
