Appraising Equity in Education With The Nation’s Report Card and Beyond

Sun, April 14, 1:15 to 2:45pm, Pennsylvania Convention Center, Floor: Level 100, Room 112B

Session Type: Symposium

Abstract

Improving educational equity in U.S. schools has long been a priority for many K-12 educators and policymakers, but making progress has proven extremely difficult, and the pandemic in many ways exacerbated the situation. In this symposium, experts present four papers that probe the issue from multiple vantage points, with special attention to “academic segregation” from school to school, examining outcomes for states and large urban districts with National Assessment of Educational Progress data, and spotlighting a new, interactive tool that unpacks achievement gaps by race and ethnicity. In addition, presenters discuss where to go next with longitudinal data systems that better align and connect achievement and outcomes across early childhood, K-12, and postsecondary systems, as well as across workforce sectors.
