Session Type: Symposium
This symposium spotlights a long term research-practice partnership between several universities and a multilingual, multiethnic immigrant community in South Philadelphia as a means to foster dialogue about the practices, challenges, and promises of Community-Based Research in Education (CBRE). Attendees will consider how intergenerational, community-based research challenges hierarchies in university collaborations by foregrounding the questions of those most directly impacted by schooling, and how to foster equitable partnership dynamics while engaging in collaborative research. Members of the Philadelphia partnership – youth, families, community leaders, and university students and faculty – will lead the symposium, representing different institutional affiliations and stakeholders working towards educational change. Attendees will engage in dialogue about forging solidarity in the service of participatory justice in educational research and practice.
