Session Type: Symposium
Responding to the AERA 2024 call to engage in “simultaneous act of dismantling racial injustice and constructing educational possibilities' ', this symposium brings together a group of scholars from diverse backgrounds to explore children’s literature from different frameworks and issues. Together, the five papers that comprise this symposium advance the conversation related to children's literature for/about various minoritized communities such as Black, Jewish, Asian American, and Southeast Asian. The panel collectively advances discussions on the status and potentials of children’s literature using diverse critical analysis approaches to develop racial literacy, support teachers in incorporating global literature into the curriculum, and explore ways to connect poetic genres with students' lives.
