Session Type: Structured Poster Session
This structured poster session brings together research projects exploring ways to integrate data science education, particularly critical data literacy, into K-12 education and teacher professional development. We are particularly interested in social studies education and work from other disciplinary contexts that might inform how we think about data science education in social studies. Because data is often biased, questions about how K-12 students learn about data in relation to issues of race, class, gender, and power are important, yet remain relatively understudied. Presenters will highlight various approaches to engaging K-12 students and teachers in data science education. We seek to spark dialog about a relatively understudied context (social studies) for engaging students and teachers in data science.
