Session Type: Symposium
Diversifying the Science, Technology, and Entrepreneurship (STE) workforce has the potential to increase productivity and innovation. In this session, we share novel approaches that four organizations serving Philadelphians are taking to shift the makeup and culture of the STE workforce and consider how to research these efforts to determine their effectiveness. First, program developers and industry partners from BULB, Coded by Kids, FirstHand, and NFTE will share how their programs connect local communities and the entrepreneurial and innovation ecosystem in Philadelphia to provide skills-based career exposure to students and adults historically underrepresented in STE. Then, we will explore how researchers can identify what metrics should be used to determine whether such programs are effective.
