Session Type: Symposium
Students’ perceptions of belonging when they transition to a new school has been shown to shape their educational outcomes. When schools closed due to the COVID pandemic, many students experienced disruptions in their academic preparation, in addition to a loss of time spent socializing with peers. The studies in this symposium examine how COVID has impacted the experiences of belonging in college with the goal of understanding the impact of remote learning, any lingering effects, and potential disparities in those effects from pre-, during, and “past” COVID. The findings from the papers highlight potential areas in need of intervention during times of remote learning and provide an example of an intervention institutions might implement.
