Session Type: Workshop
Black teachers expertise has often been excluded from the research and policy processes though they are among the most important agents of change in schools. This workshop session will discuss a continuum of research methods used, including traditional qualitative methods, community engaged approaches, and participatory action research (PAR), by a mission-driven education research organization in our research on Black teacher experiences. We will briefly describe the aims and methods of three studies and how each one supported the evolution of our methods as Black researchers whose research interests focus on Black teachers. Two Black teacher-researchers will discuss their experiences as researchers and engage attendees in a discussion of PAR, its aims, challenges, and contributions to collective sensemaking and knowledge production.
