Session Type: Symposium
To best understand leadership in ECE settings, a richer theoretical model linking leadership to outcomes is needed, as well as systematic empirical work exploring hypothesized relationships. Little is known, for example, about leaders’ experiences, needs, and challenges, and what day-to-day activities they engage in to support quality outcomes. The goal of this symposium is to leverage a recent theory of change outlining the role of ECE leadership in center, teacher, child and family outcomes—the ExCELS study—to generate discussion around both the potential of leadership for ECE transformation, and what systematic inquiry in an emerging leadership field might look like.
