Session Type: Symposium
Many programs and institutions are working to make their educational spaces anti-oppressive and free from injustices caused by racism and oppression. In this symposium, we will provide insights into anti-racist, anti-oppressive educational practices in health professions education. The first presentation reviews principles and frameworks guiding anti-oppressive initiatives in medical education and discusses one institution’s translation of these into practice. The second presentation reviews materials published as part of open-access anti-racism education and DEI collections, noting patterns in the theories/concepts, approaches, objectives, audiences, activities, and resources described. The third presentation offers three examples of the development, implementation, and evaluation of resources to support educators engage in anti-racist, anti-oppressive educational practices. We will conclude by discussing future directions for scholarship.
