Session Type: Workshop
This workshop provides a collaborative learning space to dream of solidarity through sociocultural and decolonial theories. Participants are invited to think of solidarity as interdependent with human existence. In particular, this workshop challenges the hyper-individualistic and oftentimes competitive nature of academic professional development, research, and teaching. The workshop is divided in three parts (1) navigating tensions and solidarities in classrooms, (2) developing research in solidarity with marginalized communities, and (3) navigating competition, apathy, and individualism in academic professional development. Through a series of prompts, group exercises, and reflective writing activities, this workshop aims to co-produce with the audience new ways of imagining solidarities in these three areas. The workshop also focuses on developing self-reflexivity and teacher/researcher positionalities.
