Session Type: Symposium
This panel considers how cross-disciplinary attention to historical-geospatial acuity and pedagogical materiality may render clearer a Black radical pedagogical tradition that we might otherwise lose sight of if we remained stuck in disciplinary mire. Marshaling the conceptual tools of history, religion, education, and Black Studies, we explore the historical and contextualized nuances, and future directions of the Black pedagogical tradition within movements and schools. Along with identifying the contributions of key scholars and Black organic intellectuals, our research uses student voices around the historical demand for and articulation of Black pedagogies to show what is possible in this contemporary moment.
