Session Type: Roundtable Session
As a call to action for education research scholars, this session invites a re-imagining of the ways in which academic research can be used to organize toward racial and social justice in education, from the positionality of the scholar, to the research design and methodology, and to the practice of embedding research in organizing and practice. Three Black scholars examine how their leadership in community organizations enables them to actualize racial justice in education using research methods and evidence from their doctoral training at a Research-1 institution. The scholars discuss their organizations’ impact on closing the research-to-practice gap in education through highlighting their innovative approaches in participatory research, organizing for policy change, and implementing evidence-based anti-racist interventions in education.
