Media, Culture, and Learning SIG Business Meeting and Reception: Learning for the World to Come: Building Futures for Educational Research

Sat, April 13, 6:45 to 8:15pm, Philadelphia Marriott Downtown, Floor: Level 4, Franklin 4

Session Type: Business Meeting

Abstract

This session articulates paradigms for educational research that move beyond the boundaries of traditional approaches to exploring media, culture, and learning. Recognizing that social inequity and intersecting forms of oppression are part of the foundations of current educational systems and scholarly traditions, we posit that our field must deconstruct the given landscape of interventions, study designs, and best practices that attend largely to surviving in the world as it is. Rather, we must imagine alternate models of teaching, learning, researching, loving, and dreaming, and we must work toward manifesting such models urgently and collectively to construct the worlds that could be. This session invites collective imagining about ethics, commitments, and practices that can guide our community forward in this pursuit.
