What Is Access Equity? Understanding and Critique, Starting With the Affirmative Action Ruling, From a Multiracial Perspective: Invited Speaker Session

Sat, April 13, 11:25am to 12:55pm, Philadelphia Marriott Downtown, Floor: Level 4, Franklin 7

Session Type: Invited Speaker Session

Abstract

A diverse panel of scholars-educators-activists with expertise on racism (and other intersected structural–isms) and critical engagement with equity issues in education including Affirmative Action topics are in dialogue with one another and the session audience (and beyond), addressing questions including the following:

• What do we know scholarly (i.e., research-based evidences) about the Affirmative
Action policy and its impact on equity?
• What knowledge/evidence do we have on access equity beyond the racial lines that
challenges the zero-sum racial positioning used by white supremacy and neoliberal
agendas?
• How can we act on our collective knowledge to continue fighting for equity across
P-20 systems against the setbacks signified by such rulings on Affirmative Action?
