Session Type: Business Meeting
“Indigenous peoples continue to suffer disproportionately from climate change, environmental degradation, high levels of poverty, poor access to education, health, and broader human rights violations.
While representing over 6 percent of the world's population (476 million in some 90 countries), indigenous peoples are nearly three times as likely to be living in extreme poverty.
A significant challenge confronting educational researchers is how to promote, protect, and nurture Indigenous languages and cultures in a modern society. This session will examine the challenges faced by Indigenous peoples in the international arena and the strategies employed by Indigenous educational researchers to uplift the health and well-being of their people.
