Session Type: Invited Speaker Session
UNESCO (2021) has called for “a new social contract for education” that “must address the existing web of inequalities that perpetuate educational and social exclusions.” This session brings together teacher educators from Finland, New Zealand, Portugal, Singapore, and the U.S. to share perspectives on preparing teachers to uphold such a social contract and work towards a just, equitable and peaceful future for everyone. How are teacher educators rethinking the why, what, what for, and how of teacher preparation? What are the big challenges now facing teacher educators? What will it take to transform teacher education? The session will engage participants in small group discussions around these critical questions, and in imagining creative solutions together.
