Session Type: Invited Speaker Session
This symposium examines the bright and dark sides of digital technology. Using research evidence, this session will explore: 1) how the use of digital tools/resources could enhance equity and make education more inclusive; 2) how digital tools, particularly algorithmic bias, could make education less equitable; 3) what we should do to harness the positive, inclusive and equitable potential of data, AI and digitalisation. The panel will present examples of research, discuss whether specific research protocols could be designed to mitigate possible negative effects of technology on equity, note what tools could be built and mutualised across countries to that effect, and discuss how international comparisons or jointly coordinated projects could shed light on positive uses of digital technology in education.
