Session Type: Invited Speaker Session
This session presents an international forum to understand and improve the ways in which education researchers utilize data from, and conceptualize design improvements for, largescale educational assessments such as NAEP, PISA, and TIMSS to address the issues of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI). This session invites a panel of distinguished researchers to offer critical insights and practical tips on DEI-enhancing research using large-scale assessments for early career researchers including graduate students. The panel addresses these topics: (1) how to make large-scale assessments more socioculturally responsive, (2) how to measure and examine students’ socioeconomic status (SES) through large-scale surveys, and (3) how to investigate gaps in educational opportunities, not only within schools (e.g., tracking) but also outside schools (e.g., private tutoring).
