Session Type: Invited Speaker Session
“Education for liberation implies the political organization of the oppressed to achieve power” (Freire, 1975), and “history is the fruit of power” (Truillot, 2015). This session brings together four Black women scholar-activists in a hybrid format to discuss the ways that historical research methods can be leveraged to build coalitions for liberation in education. This includes an in-depth discussion concerning race and racism, oral history, digital archiving, freedom schools, and community partnerships. The goal is for attendees to learn promising strategies for conducting educational research with an eye towards educational justice.
