Session Type: Invited Speaker Session
Since August 31, 2022, the city of Chicago has welcomed more than 20,000 migrants bussed from Texas. Cities like New York and Philadelphia have also received thousands of migrants bussed from the southern borders. This has created a problem in Sanctuary cities as they are overwhelmed trying to provide services to the new arrivals. While the current migrant crisis is qualitatively a new and complex problem, it could be framed as part of a broader Latinx migration to the United States, one that is directly related to the country’s foreign policy. This session explores the state of Latinx, migrant, and bilingual education in the U.S. and the roles and responsibilities of educational researchers.
