Abstract

This study examined the mediating role of bullying perpetration on the association between adolescents’ exposure to violence in the family and their behavioral problem, which is further moderated by family resilience. Our target sample is adolescents who are 12-17 years of age from the 2020 National Survey of Children’s Health (NSCH) data. Controlling for socio-demographic factors (i.e., sex, family structure, household income, and primary caregiver’s highest education level), we found adolescents’ exposure to violence in the family is associated with behavioral problems, and their bullying perpetration partially mediated the association. Further, family resilience was found to moderate the association between bullying perpetration and behavioral problems. The significance of the study is discussed.
