Sun, April 27, 1:30 to 3:00pm MDT (1:30 to 3:00pm MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Ballroom Level, Four Seasons Ballroom 1

Abstract

Utilizing the Race Implicit Association Test (RA-IAT), this study assesses the implicit biases of pre-service teachers concerning race both prior to and following coursework centered on poverty, equity, and justice in American schools. Initial observations unearth significant biases associated with race, highlighting the imperative for targeted educational interventions. The study's ramifications transcend its findings, guiding the enhancement of teacher preparation programs and the promotion of educational equity. It accentuates the critical need for integrating implicit bias training into curricula to cultivate inclusive learning environments. Ultimately, through the mitigation of implicit biases, this research envisages a more equitable educational milieu, fostering favorable student outcomes and systemic fairness.
